Google Refuses To Turn Over Search Data To DOJ

Google Inc. said it will "vigorously" resist an attempt by the Bush administration to force the company to turn over information that would allow Justice Department lawyers to find out what consumers are searching for on the Internet.

The government contends it needs the data to determine how often consumers search for pornography on the Internet. The administration's motion is part of a legal effort to revive a law aimed at combating online child pornography.
Other, unnamed search companies have turned over the requested material, according to a report in the San Jose Mercury News, but Google has refused. Rival firm Yahoo Inc. (YHOO) didn't immediately respond to a MarketWatch request for comment
